Tariq al Haydar is a Saudi fiction writer and essayist. Born in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1979, he has lived in Virginia for parts of his childhood and adult life. He has spent the bulk of his life, however, in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, which he mostly writes about.

Stories and essays of his have appeared in journals such as The Threepenny Review, DIAGRAM and North American Review. An essay of his which appeared in the Crab Orchard Review was listed as "notable" in The Best American Essays 2016.

He also translated two of Dareen Tatour's poems in A Blade of Grass: New Palestinian Poetry (Smokestack, 2017), edited by Naomi Foyle.
